چکیده

This work proposes a new configuration of liquid piston compressors and methodology for their optimization, with special attention to heat removal from the compressing gas, in order minimize mechanical required compression process. The adopted approach starts solution governing equations through 0D model (lumped approach). A correlation transfer coefficient is presented calculate sensible gas cooling liquid. results are validated by comparison experimental numerical data literature performed CFD calculations. In proposed geometric configuration, removed tubes bundle inserted chamber, medium flowing inside tubes. was chosen because it simple design common materials manufacturing processes can be used its manufacturing. addition, no regeneration inserts cycle cycle, making that ideal cyclic operation. parametric study focuses on dependence overall efficiency number diameter speed piston. It found highest given at specific diameter, combination few larger higher gives best efficiency.

Modeling and Trajectory Optimization of Water Spray Cooling in a Liquid Piston Air Compressor

An efficient and sufficiently power dense air compressor/expander is the key element in a Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) approach. Efficiency can be increased by improving the heat transfer between air and its surrounding materials. One effective and practical method to achieve this goal is to use water droplets spray inside the chamber when air is compressing or expanding. In this paper,...

Modeling and Control of a Free Liquid-Piston Engine Compressor

This paper presents the modeling and control of a prototype compact free liquid-piston engine compressor. The dynamic model includes 1) the injection dynamics of the air/fuel mixture, 2) the dynamics of heat release during combustion, 3) the inertial dynamics of the magnetically latched combustion valve, 4) the mass flow dynamics of the combustion and exhaust valves, 5) the inertial dynamics of...

Finite Element Modeling of Compressor Discharge Tubes

Discharge tubes in hermetically sealed refrigeration compressors are often a source of fatigue failure which is not serviceable and necessitates the replacement of the compressor. The finite element method can be used to model the discharge tube to help prevent such failures and to reduce costs by optimizing the tube. This investigation considers techniques for modeling discharge tubes with fin...

Reducing Piston Mass in a Free Piston Engine Compressor by Exploiting the Inertance of a Liquid Piston

A dynamic model of a free liquid piston that exploits piston geometry to produce a high inertance was developed for use in a free piston engine compressor. It is shown that for the size scale targeted, advantageous piston dynamics can be achieved with a reduced piston mass compared to a rigid piston design. It is also shown that the viscous losses associated with the liquid piston are negligibl...

Compressor with Turning-Paired Vane and Piston

With the aim of developing a method for reducing energy consumption of room air conditioners, we address a higher-efficiency design of the rotary compressor currently most used worldwide. We focused on a new rotary compressor equipped with a mechanism to restrict the rolling motion of the piston, and performed a dynamics analysis. The new rotary compressor has a small pillar at the tip of the v...
